The student art of jazz

2014: Yutang “Emily” Liu, St. Joseph’s H.S.Supporting the annual Pittsfield CityJazz Festival

Berkshires Jazz celebrates national Jazz Appreciation Month (April) with the posting the results of our Student Art Contest. As many as 100 students have participated in the annual contest, and their works hang in Pittsfield City Hall corridors for the entire month.

The contest was conceived as a way to engage more of the student community in cross-genre creative activity. Many of the students conduct independent research the subject, and jazz music is sometimes played during the classes, as a way of inspiring the student artists.

The first-place entry becomes a core element in the marketing materials for the Pittsfield CityJazz Festival that year.

Many of those winning paintings are presented here, for your enjoyment and appreciation. Congratulations to the winners, and to all participants. Tip of the hat to the art teachers in all of Pittsfield’s public and private high schools which participate.
