10 World Premieres in our Composers Showcase

Berkshires Jazz has commissioned 10 original works, one each from 10 composers, to be performed in concert as part of Pittsfield’s 10×10 Upstreet Arts Festival. That’s right, 10 world premieres in one evening.

An all-star trio of Eugene Uman, piano; Mary Ann McSweeney, bass; and Conor Meehan, drums, will perform the new works, joined by the composer and one or more of their composing colleagues. Reflecting myriad styles and instruments, the works have been created by

 Kris Allen … Carolyn Dufraine … Jason Ennis
Daryl Lowery … Anton Kot … Peter McEachern
Mary Ann McSweeney … Joe Smith
Richard Stanmeyer … Eugene Uman

Aside from the composing pen itself, their instruments include alto and tenor saxophones, guitar, piano, bass, drums, trumpet and trombone. No two groups will be the same, in this panoply of jazz excellence. Each to be heard for the first time on Feb. 25.
