SPECIAL NOTE TO MASSACHUSETTS TAXPAYERS

Every charitable donation you make can now be deducted from your state income tax return, regardless of whether you itemize your federal deductions. The new regulation applies to all donations from January 1, 2023 and on.

As confirmed by the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network, of which Berkshires Jazz is a member, the deduction is universal—it applies to all Massachusetts taxpayers, no matter the income level, and including those who don’t itemize their federal deductions or whose charitable donations do not meet the itemization threshold.

Donate Securities

In addition to traditional ways of supporting Berkshires Jazz through check or credit card, you can donate securities, such as, stocks, bonds,  money markets, CDs and mutual funds. The benefits are many, and include taking any tax deduction based on the full appreciated market value of these securities. This can increase the impact of your donation, and enable us to continue our mission of presenting jazz events, supporting jazz education, and promoting the local jazz scene.

The process is fast and easy, thanks to Edward Jones, which has established this giving program for us. For details and to start the process, contact Edward Jones Financial Advisor Corey Degon, via email to Corey.Degon@edwardjones.com, or give him a call at 413-433-0489. He will answer any questions and send you the form for your broker or advisor.

In addition to gifting securities, you may be able to donate directly from your Individual Retirement Account. As a 501c3 non-profit organization, a charitable distribution to Berkshires Jazz, Inc. allows you to give directly from your IRA, which might satisfy any minimum distribution requirements you may have. There are age and maximum distribution rules for this type of gift, so you’ll want to discuss this strategy with your financial advisor.

No matter which path you take, thank you for your support.
