Winner of numerous accolades, including the Cole Porter Fellowship and the Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists, Sullivan Fortner is one of the top players of his generation.

A New Orleans native, he was the valedictorian of his high school class and then went on to receive degrees from Oberlin and Manhattan School of Music. Fortner’s vision honors the jazz legacy and moves it forward.

The New York Times claims that he has “an extravagant amount of talent,” a fact that is illustrated by the jazz luminaries who continue to feature him as a sideman: Billy Hart, Roy Hargrove, Gary Bartz, Wynton Marsalis, Paul Simon, John Scofield, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Nicholas Peyton, Christian Scott, Donald Harrison and many others.

He will appear at the VJC with his working trio.
