Andrea Brachfeld and Insight, at Saint James Place

Award-winning flutist and quartet performs on

Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021 –7:30pm

Berkshires Jazz returns to indoors programming with a concert featuring Andrea Brachfeld and Insight. Headed by the acclaimed award-winning flutist Andrea Brachfeld, Insight includes Bill O’Connell, piano; Harvie S, bass; and Jason Tiemann, drums.

In addition to familiar jazz tunes, the repertoire will feature “If Not Now, When,” her original (and aptly named) composition made possible by a New Works grant from Chamber Music America.

Andrea's first jazz gig was at age 16 when she put a quartet together, wrote her own music, and played at “All Night Soul” at the famed St. Peter’s Church in New York. From that point on, improvisation became a way of life, starting with the Jazzmobile workshops conducted by Dr. Billy Taylor. She has traveled and performed extensively, including Cuba, Croatia, and a 2-and-a-half-year stint in Venezuela. In 2015, she was named the “Best Jazz Flutist” by Hot House Magazine.

The performance of the Andrea Brachfeld and Insight, presented in collaboration with The Jazz Loft and Riverview Jazz.org, is supported by Presenter Consortium for Jazz, a program of Chamber Music America, funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

With its comfortable, spacious performance space, Saint James Place is visually and acoustically outstanding, and has fast become one of Berkshires Jazz’ favorite indoors venues in southern Berkshire County.
