Matt and Atla DeChamplain are bringing the Hot Club of New England to the Berkshires for a “CD on-ramp” Concert at Proprietor’s Lodge.
The Hot Club of New England is a “hot swing” quintet that performs in the style of Django Reinhardt. The Sunday matinee concert will start at 4:30pm (doors open at 4pm), and a cash bar will be available. The dining room will be open after the concert.
Headed by pianist Matt DeChamplain and his wife Atla, The Hot Club of New England is a musical collective featuring the top swing, gypsy, and hot jazz musicians in the New England area. Matt is a virtuoso pianist with a range that spans from delicate and intimate to energetic and powerful. His wife Atla has a sensitive yet powerful voice which displays an amazing range and demonstrates the full emotional gamut from joy to tragedy.
Berkshires Jazz has dubbed the Jan. 5 performance a “CD on-ramp concert.” It represents a unique opportunity to see fresh material in a live performance before it is captured in a studio setting. The quintet’s performance at last February’s 10x10 Upstreet Arts Festival attracted Berkshires Jazz’ largest audience for that festival over the many years of programming at the Berkshire Museum.
The group was founded when the jazz power couple teamed up with members of the internationally renowned gypsy jazz group The Rhythm Future Quartet. The core instrumentation can vary with circumstances. The January 5 configuration includes voice (Atla DeChamplain), piano (Matt DeChamplain), acoustic guitar (Max O’Rourke), bass (Greg Loughman), and clarinet (Evan Arntzen).
The Hot Club of New England is on a mission to bring the elegant and classic style of the swing era and the roaring 20s to a modern audience. Their music contains echoes of Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and other legends of the Great American Songbook, tinged with the French Manouche style of the great Django Reinhardt and the Quintette du Hot Club de France.

The Proprietor’s Lodge is a popular dining and music venue located on the shores of Pontoosuc Lake. A cash bar will be available during the performance, and the dining room will be open afterwards. And, to top it all off, they are offering a 10% food discount for music-goers. Dinner reservations are recommended, and may be made at (413) 344-9546.
